Do You Have a Clear Outcome?

Have you ever left a meeting feeling frustrated because nothing was achieved? Is it taking you longer to get your desired results than you would like?

In our last blog post, we discussed the Five Principles for Success that we use in NLP. The first principle is to know your outcome because when you are clear about your outcome, your outcome is far more achievable.
Prior to making a phone call, sending an email or having a meeting, always think about your outcome. When you have an outcome that is clear, your thoughts, words and actions will be more purposeful and you will achieve clearer results. This is because you will be more focused with your questions, more focused on what you hear and listen out for and be better prepared before and during meetings and phone calls.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself to clarify your outcome before making a call, sending an email or attending your next meeting:

1.         What specifically do you want to achieve from the phone call, email or meeting?
2.         How will you be able to measure that your outcome has been achieved?
3.         What will you and others gain from achieving this outcome?
4.         Realistically, when would you like to achieve your outcome? What is your timeframe for achieving this outcome?
5.         How would you like to achieve your outcome? What are the key steps that you and/or others need to take to achieve this outcome?
Think about your next phone call, email or meeting, and ask yourself the above questions beforehand. Whether you write down the answers to the above questions or simply answer them in your mind, notice how you now have greater clarity and are better placed to achieve your outcome.
